A few months ago, I was approached by a friend of a friend with a proposition: I travel to their family session, shoot their family, and then give them full rights to the pictures, in exchange for three nights at their romantic get away.
I will start this blog by admitting that the whole thing sounded, well, not me. BUT, I told Nick about it and he seemed to think it was a great idea (thank you Nick!), so I agreed!
With me nursing Josie still so much (she's 9 months), I obviously couldn't leave her for 3 days, but I thought we could swing ONE day now, and then two days this fall. Sweet.
And so begins the hands down best 24 hours of my life. No exaggeration!
We left home around 1 o'clock on Wednesday....with the snow glare, Nick grabbed my $1 thrift store old man glasses. Woot.
After a long but FUN drive (easy crossword puzzles and Wendy's Mad-Libs!), we arrived at Serenity Springs! It was super easy to get to and JUST GORGEOUS! We got a carriage ride to our cabin!
The room! More pictures from the website here to get a better idea of the room!
Yum.
Yum.
Some champagne...
*heaven* I am a HUGE bath girl....I loooove baths, this was just awesome. The view from it was amazing, the water was perfect, there were lights that were awesome at night...we took THREE baths in the 15 hours we were there!
Fun goodies!
A little bit later, our Butler Door's light turned on, which meant one of the staff had left us a surprise!
Stuff to make s'mores!!!
And the massage? Oh. Man.
I am a total massage lover. I've gotten some GREAT massages in the past, and some super crappy ones. So I know what I'm talking about when I say that THIS one was perfect in every way. The only improvements: 1) It would last forever and 2) It would last forever.
Seriously, I felt about 100 pounds lighter afterwards and tingly.
Oh, and the oil she used was heavenly, I didn't need a shower or even toweled off afterwards, I just felt perfectly lotiony!
After our massages, we headed off to the Four Winds Casino, about 10 minutes away. I sadly didn't take my camera since they aren't allowed. Boo.
BUT, omigosh, the Buffet. That gets freaking capitalized. The. Buffet.
$20 and you get Prime Rib that melts in your mouth, better Asian food than you'd find at a typical Asian restaurant, Amazing Mexican food (tamales...I LOVE tamales), wings, ribs, BBQ chicken, grilled chicken, a HUGE salad bar with amazingly fresh greens and veggies, soups, about a bazillion types of bread and flavored butters/spreads, and a dessert bar that was off the hook!
Le sigh.
So after gorging ourselves and me trying to stay awake with two cups of coffee...trying to keep the food coma at bay, Nick wanted to head to the casino area.
Let me say that I am anti-gambling. Not even a slot machine. Being there just reinforced my reasons. It was jam packed full of sad, dirty, empty looking people...gambling away money they didn't have. Not many people looked happy. Just not my cup of tea.
Anyways, Nick is like most normal people and doesn't think it's as heinous as I do. He wanted to play the roulette table. I told him I would watch and cheer him on, and that he should put the chips (after a long time watching others and him explaining it to me) on our anniversary date....2-18-and 6. Well, guess who won $200 by mostly by putting his chips on the 6? He promptly got up, cashed out, and we left!
Woo hoo!
Back to the room, and we had a goody waiting for us in our butler door:
As IF we could eat that after the food feast at the casino! So we stuck it in the fridge (along with a meat and cheese tray they had waiting for us when we got there earlier!)
The night was just perfect! The bed was the most amazingly comfortable bed either of us had ever slept in...like I kept getting good sleepy chills (anyone know what I mean by that?) as I was falling asleep! When Nick and I get a new bed, we are asking where the heck they got it!
The next morning we awoke to glorious silence. No kids, no whining dog, no crying baby, no alarm, no work calling Nick in...it was awesome.
And for you Twilight readers out there, a lone feather made it's way to my leg, lol! I had to laugh and take a picture!
The one (only) thing I hate about my camera, is that it isn't the easiest to get a picture of yourself with. So we hung it from the canopy around the bed and managed this. Pardon the sleepy face and no makeup, but I love it, and I love that man next to me!
Bath #3...
Enjoying a fire and the gorgeous view!
Nothing like coffee and some Jenga while soaking in a hot tub!
For the record. I totally won :)
Okay, Nick is going to think I'm crazy for posting this, but *I* think it's the funniest thing ever. So obviously I had to pump while being away from Josie. She never takes bottles anymore, so it's not like I needed to save the milk. So when I couldn't find the creamer for my coffee the next morning, I had a great idea. Nick said it was a form of cannibalism, I disagree.
Oh, and they did have creamer, I guess I just didn't look hard enough! :)
And what better to go with breastmilk coffee than fresh blueberry muffins and fruit??
Right before we left, we decided to feed a few geese....
Aren't they cute?
Then it was time to leave :(
A swan (which are huge by the way) came up to say goodbye...
That was our cabin in the middle....bye Serenity Springs! See you in October!!!
